2013 Success Story
$50,000 Donated to Middleton Outreach Ministry
In June 2013, the inaugural edition of THE KURT launched with just seven months to prepare. Smart people said we were crazy, that a new foundation running an event on less than one-year’s planning was a disaster waiting to happen. We considered those concerns carefully, and decided not to launch an event – we launched THREE!
The Kurt Golf Tournament was a sold-out affair at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison, featuring golf, lunch, cocktails, golf shirts and valuable prizes. The Kurt Music Event took the stage that same evening at the Majestic Theatre, featuring the music of The Waco Brothers, Yarn and Cannonball. The Music Event also featured a live auction of an opportunity to visit the set of ABC-TV’s hit show Modern Family in Los Angeles, created by our friend Steve Levitan (and Kurt’s former roommate circa 1989). Finally, the Kurt Soccer Marathon featured food, T-shirts and a continuous soccer game on the fields of Shorewood Hills, honoring Kurt’s love of soccer in his former hometown.
The Kurt W. Saupe Foundation was overwhelmed by the response and participation from so many friends, and the events were a blast! But THE KURT was not just about fun: we were able to exceed our goal that every participant dollar be donated to Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM), to support their food pantry and other operations as Kurt requested. Following THE KURT 2013, the Foundation was thrilled to be able to present a check to MOM for $50,000, while maintaining seed money for THE KURT 2014. Our contribution – your contribution – would not have been possible without our sponsors and our friends.
Whether you gave thousands, hundreds or simply bought tickets and joined us, your help with THE KURT has made a difference in our community, and started a groundswell of support for THE KURT 2014.
In response to the tremendous financial success of THE KURT 2013, we have concluded one important thing: we can do better. With your help, THE KURT 2014 will be bigger and better, and continue Kurt’s vision of making a difference in people’s lives.
